Stories do not exist until someone helps bring them to life.

If you believe that theatre and film matter, that independent storytelling deserves to exist beyond a single season, beyond a single room, this is where that belief becomes something real.

This page exists for one reason. Donate to support film production and theatre recordings that would otherwise never reach the audiences they deserve.

The Reality of Independent Creative Work

Independent theatre and film do not have the funding structures that sustain commercial production. There are no studios writing cheques. There are no network deals covering post-production costs.

There is the work. And there are the people who care enough about it to make it happen.

For those looking to support theatre and film production at the independent level, the challenge is finding a place where a contribution creates a genuine, visible impact. Not a percentage disappearing into administration. Not a donation absorbed by an institution that already has resources. A direct investment in specific creative work by a specific artist with a verified track record.

That is what this page offers.

What Is Being Built

The vision here is specific and practical.

Theatre disappears the moment the curtain comes down. A live performance exists once, for the people in that room, and then it is gone. Recording changes that equation. A production captured properly can reach an audience in São Paulo, Seoul, or a classroom in rural Australia, years after the original performance closed.

This project is working toward:

  • Recording live theatre productions for global distribution.
  • Developing film projects that extend the work beyond the stage.
  • Creating a lasting archive of productions that would otherwise exist only in the memories of the people who were there.
  • Making the work accessible to audiences who cannot access live theatre in their location.

This is creative project funding with a clear purpose. Not a vague arts initiative. A concrete plan to capture, finish, and share work that is already being made.

Why Support Alex Broun

Alex Broun is an internationally performed playwright and screenwriter whose work has been staged in over 50 countries, translated into multiple languages, and performed in venues ranging from studio theatres to international festivals across six continents.

His plays have been produced in the USA, Australia, the UK, Portugal, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Dubai, among many others. His short play catalogue is one of the most produced in the world at the independent and community theatre level, with over 2,000 productions to date.

He has written and directed short films. He has written poetry and creative prose alongside the theatrical work.

This is not a first project from an unknown creator. When you donate to artists and filmmakers, the question that matters most is whether the work is real. Here it is, and it has the production history to prove it.

Where the Money Goes

This is the part that matters most, and it deserves a straight answer.

When you donate to creative projects through this page, your contribution goes directly toward:

Production recording costs

Camera operators, sound recording, lighting for filming, and the technical infrastructure required to capture a live performance at a quality that works for distribution.

Editing and post-production

The work that happens after filming. Editing, colour grading, sound mixing, and the time required to turn raw footage into a finished product that does justice to the original performance.

Distribution and accessibility

Getting the finished recordings to audiences. Platform costs, subtitle and accessibility work, and the infrastructure that makes international distribution possible.

There are no management fees sitting between your contribution and the work. No corporate overhead. No layer of administration consuming a percentage before anything reaches production.

When you choose to fund theatre productions or support independent film projects through this page, the money goes to exactly what it says it does.

What Your Support Enables

Choosing to support playwrights and filmmakers is a decision to be part of something being made, not just a transaction.

With your support:

  • Productions that would otherwise go unrecorded get captured and preserved.
  • Audiences who cannot access live theatre get to experience the work.
  • Independent film funding gaps that stop creative projects mid-development get closed.
  • The archive of recorded work grows into something that outlasts any individual production run.

When you support independent artists at this level, the impact is direct. There is no intermediary between your contribution and the work it enables. You are not backing a company. You are backing a body of creative work with a genuine international audience.

This is what it means to back independent creators. Not in principle, but in practice.

Make a contribution

Support Creative Work That Already Has an Audience

The plays are written. The productions are being staged. The demand from audiences across more than 50 countries is real and documented.

What this project needs is the resources to capture that work properly, finish it to the standard it deserves, and share it with the audiences it has already earned.

Support storytelling that has crossed borders, languages, and cultures. Support creative work that exists because of a commitment to the craft, not because of institutional backing or commercial investment.

If you have read this far, you already understand why that matters.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How will my donation be used?

Every contribution goes directly toward the costs of recording, editing, and distributing theatre and film productions. That means camera and sound equipment, post-production editing time, and the platform and distribution costs that make the finished work accessible to international audiences. There are no administrative fees or management costs between your donation and the work it supports. Creative funding initiatives like this one depend entirely on that transparency to function.

Can I support a specific production or project?

If you have a specific production or project you would like your contribution to go toward, please get in touch through the contact details on the site. Where possible, contributions can be directed toward specific recording or film development projects. Anyone wanting to support independent film projects or a particular theatrical recording is welcome to reach out directly to discuss how their contribution can be applied.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

There is no minimum. Every contribution regardless of size goes toward the production fund and makes a practical difference. Independent creative work is funded incrementally. A small contribution from many people committed to supporting creative work and storytelling adds up to something that would not exist without that collective support.

Will I receive updates on the project?

Yes. Contributors will receive updates on productions being recorded and developed, including progress on editing, distribution, and the broader creative work being produced. Choosing to support artistic projects at this level means being part of them, and that includes knowing what your contribution is helping to build.

Why is funding important for independent theatre and film?

Independent theatre and film operate without the commercial infrastructure that sustains mainstream production. There are no studio deals or network commissions covering every project. Support theatre and film production at the independent level means covering the specific costs that institutions and commercial producers never have to think about because they have existing infrastructure. For independent creators, creative project funding is not supplementary income. It is the difference between the work existing and not existing.

How does my contribution help bring productions to life?

Directly and practically. A live theatre production without a recording disappears when the run ends. A film project without post-production funding sits unfinished. Your contribution covers the specific costs that sit between a production being staged and that production reaching a global audience. When you donate to support film production or theatrical recording, you are covering camera operators, editing time, sound mixing, and distribution costs. These are not abstract expenses. They are the specific things that turn a live performance into something that can be seen anywhere in the world, long after the original production has closed.
